Welcome to our first ever update in our new Projects in Focus page!

For our first drop we will be taking a deep dive into our finished luxury installation of window coverings at Milson’s Point, Aqualuna. And hopefully, by the end of this focus we will have helped you come up with some of your own ideas and inspirations in ways to decorate your own windows.

Our project at Milson’s Point began in May of 2021 and was completed in October of 2021 (with a lockdown period in-between).
The finished look was stunning, elegant and modern.

So what exactly did this project include?
For this high-end penthouse we custom made 8 motorized Dual Curtains, Sheers and Blockouts, 5 motorized block out roller blinds and 2 German made motorized honeycomb (or cellular) blinds for the skylights (check out our Instagram post here to see).

From beginning to end we began this project and completed it hand in hand with our clients. Together we sat down and discussed ideas, expectations and range. What did they hope to get out of their window furnishing? What style were they leaning towards? Colour scheme, fabrics, patterns etc…
After sitting through the initial consultation, we then moved on to the more thrilling (or maybe boring for you) part of the job! Measuring, quoting, ordering, checking and finally installing.

So let’s take that deep dive shall we?! Starting with the beautiful motorized dual curtains.

MOTORISED CURTAINS

Custom made Dual Curtains

For this ceiling to floor window a dual sheer with unlined curtain was used.

Sheer Fabric – supplied by Nettex from their Bali series in colour “Smoke”

Curtain Fabric – supplied by Gummerson from their CMB 320 lining series in colour “latte”

A popular design in Australia, these fabrics were chosen both for their style and practicality.

The invert box pleat sheers were made using an affordable fabric to create a soft atmosphere. Designed with a rolled hem, they remain evenly balanced their entire length, maintaining this simpler yet sleek look.

The knife-pleat curtain lining was chosen more for its functionality. Acting as a block out for those intense, sunny days and finished with a silicone coating to give that luxurious feel.

Together this dual curtain can either filter the harsh rays without losing too much light during the day. Or block it out completely when the curtain lining is drawn.

As the dual curtains are motorised, these tracks went hand in hand with the motorisation system, provided through Somfy Motors.
They did, however, require some customisation in the form of special bends. Due to the arced shape of the room, a template of the curve was created to ensure an exact fit.

For this particular project, the motorisation was hardwired, rather then battery operated, and connected to a hub. Allowing everything to be controlled through home automation.

MOTORISED BLINDS

Block out Fabric – supplied by Shaw from their Skye Black out series in colour “Sail”

Aluminium Fascia (FRS Pelmet) – Fabric wrapped in the same material; supplied by Shaw from their Skye Black out series in colour “Sail”

This style of roller blinds continued with that sleek, modern and simple interior décor, while also functioning as block outs.
As they were installed in the bedrooms and bathrooms, it was necessary to provide privacy as well as block out the light.
They were also a more practical decision, since they both fit and matched better with the smaller sized windows.

The addition of the fabric wrapped fascia also helped maintain a clean look for the spaces.

All roller blinds are operated through Somfy Motors.

MOTORISED CELLULAR BLINDS

Motorised cellular blind window furnishing

Translucent Fabric – 10mm single cell supplied by Peter Meyer Blinds from their simply cell range, in colour “uni duotone white”

As the apartment is surrounded by buildings that overlook it, there was a need to prevent prying eyes from seeing down into the space.

Translucent honeycomb blinds were chosen so that privacy could be maintained without losing the light.

While Cellular Blinds are not overly beneficial because skylights don’t usually need to be furnished. They were needed in this particular project due to it’s circumstances.
Since this luxury penthouse is surrounded by taller buildings, we needed to find a solution to maintain our clients privacy.
They are, however, quite popular due to their versatility and easy customisation. With their small profile when retracted and their adaptability, they keep a clean look and are a great choice for those odd shaped windows.

The cellular blinds are operated through Somfy Motors.
Chosen for their quietness.

INSTALLATION

Installation at Aqualuna, Milson’s Point was completed within one working day. With the exception of the Cellular Blinds.
Due to a delay in shipping from Germany, we had to return and install them on a later date.

After first fixing the curtain tracks and hooking the fabric for the dual curtain, our expert installers then made on the day adjustments where necessary. In this instance, we had to make sure that the fabric was approximately 1cm off the floor. An easy fix made by altering the height of the hooks.

Next we installed the roller blinds, where minor, on the day, adjustments were also made. The roller cassettes width could be altered, to ensure  a perfect fit within the window frames.

Lastly was the installation of the Honeycomb Blinds. While fitting the tracking systems, our installer needed to be certain that the tension of the wires, which the blinds operate on, were correct. An essential component, as the tracking systems needed to be the right tightness, in order for the blinds to operate properly i.e open and close without issues.

Before we began installing our products, our experts first determined what the best form and method of installation was for each window. So that all the window furnishings were securely fixed in place. Without risk of coming loose.

Decisions like choosing what tools to use or confirming the building material of the space are extremely important steps. As it helped them ensure minimal damage to the structure and the longevity of the curtains and blinds.

Aside from on the day adjustments and checks made while installing the curtains and blinds components. We also ensured that everything was operating correctly once set up.
We checked to make sure the motorisation was properly connected, that the limits of the curtains and blinds were set to the right range. And that the quality of our products had not been damaged in any way during installation.

FINAL THOUGHTS AND RECCOMENDATIONS

The project at Milson’s Point had it’s challenges but we couldn’t be more proud of the final look, quality of our handiwork and all the effort put in. By our consultants, installers and everyone involved making this vision come to life!

A vision, we might add, that can be used as inspiration for your own home or space. The range of fabrics, textiles, designs and styles when it comes to curtains and blinds, may always seem expensive, but they are also extensive. So extensive, that they can accommodate for just about any budget. Whether you are looking for the perfect curtains to stylize your space or blinds to block out the light while keeping a clean, simple interior. A look of luxury can always be achieved and quality is never compromised.
